Yareli: Water Polo is life

Happy New Year! In 2015, We are excited to give you some insight into the growth and learning experiences of our athletes. We want to give you a sneak peak into their lives as they manage their path in the Aquatic World. Please enjoy their journey and stay tune for more to come. Our first athlete is Yareli Moran who is an 8th grade student at Beechwood and a very hard working, positive student of the game. Enjoy, Brenda

My name is Yareli Moran I am 14. This is my 1.5-year playing water polo; I have learned a lot of things while being apart of the team. Leadership has had a major impact in how I play. This gives me a voice but also teaches me that my voice and opinion isn’t the only one to take in consideration. This is little more about me.

Half of my life was going to doctor’s appointments I had a heart condition it started when I was 4 and haunted me till I was about 12. I have had 3 surgery’s that have involved my heart due to this I gained a lot of weight and wasn’t so social with anybody. Being a part of the Mavericks has had a huge impact in my life I have gained a lot of confidence in myself I now know that I can play a sport if I put my mind to it. Water polo has also kept me healthy and in shape I am so happy for all the new friendships I have made.

Going on to Menlo Atherton next year I will take these tools that my coaches have given me and apply them to my daily life, classes, and any sports. I hope to continue my passion for water polo in high school. Special thanks to my coaches Brenda and Becky for believing in me and pushing me to be the best I can be.
